The Robert W. Scherer Power Plant (also known as Plant Scherer) is a coal-fired power plant located just north of Macon, Juliett Georgia in United States. The plant has four generating units, each capable of producing 930 megawatts, and is the most powerful coal-fired plant in North America. The plant is named after the former chairman and chief executive officer of Georgia Power. There was a need to reduce sulphur emissions which was affecting the environment and they came up with adding Selective Catalytic Reducer(SCR) equipment. Based on the large capacity of this power plant, the support structure weighing 40,000 tons to have the SCR equipments. The structural design was done by Worley parsons Engineers for Southern Company Generation LLC. In 2011 Southern Company awarded KBR the General Contract for the installation of Plant Scherer's environmental compliance equipment, which included installation of flue-gas desulfurization and selective catalytic reduction equipment, related ductwork, and auxiliaries at two coal-fired units.
This project provided an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our team's expertise and commitment to building such a huge structure with effective coordination among multiple Stockholders.
