Project Description

The project involved a manufacturing unit of an aluminum plant, consisting of Cold Mill, Casting, Rolling, and Finish units, with a total tonnage of 7,724 tons. Initially, the project seemed straightforward, but the complexity increased when the customer requested significant changes in the revision drawings. While changes are a natural part of any project, the scale of these revisions posed a substantial challenge for the detailing team. Despite this, the team's adaptability and use of custom components, advance automation tools along with Tekla tools allowed them to handle the situation smoothly and efficiently. The project followed a tight schedule with 53 sequences as requested by the erectors, and all submittal were delivered within the stipulated time.

Challenges

  • Crane girder redesign and rail clips modification. Tie-back coordination, Column splice impact.
  • Joist bridging. As these were developed after the IFF package, this was done as a Field work.
  • Girts were on hold and released only after the main steel was submitted to IFF.
  • Modification of all welded column gussets for a walkway.
  • Truss splice locations revised for joist clash.
  • Design drawing revisions which had a major impact on loads and profiles. Connections revised.
  • Fireproofing of steel.

Value Additions

  • We raised 145 RFI's, 134 among them were converted into Customer-RFI's which had a design impact. Regular follow-up on RFI's and impact discussion on every week.
  • Provided clear view representations for scope changes, revised design drawings, HOLD areas, and fieldwork steel. A total of 86 view representations created in Tekla to have clear understanding on the changes.
  • Ensured all submittals were delivered as per the schedule despite the volume and priority commitments.
  • Constantly monitored cost codes and notified customer of variations.
  • Discussed erection feasibility and brought it to erector's attention.

This project was a great opportunity for the team to demonstrate its capabilities. The hard work and dedication to delivering quality service, guided by the motto "On time, Every time," brought immense satisfaction. Positive feedback from the customer not only recognized the team's efforts but also motivated us to rise to future challenges.
