Project Description

Model based interface of providing connection design and detailing of several structures in this project. No design drawings to interpret except for standard details and concepts.

The entire project scope between Dow Chemicals, Sanria Engineering and fabricators was shared with each other on 3D platform enabling all parties to mitigate any schedule, design or fabrication and erection issues.

Input

A smart plant 3D file of stick-built design model in .stp format from client to import into Tekla 3D environment.

SANRIA has evolved its processes in recent years by color coding the model, tagging RFIs in the model and sharing with customer for them to discuss, negotiate change orders with their GCs/Owners.

SANRIA's scope

Clean up the work points discrepancy, assign correct assembly names, prefix and suffix, create GA's and validate.

SANRIA developed in house tools customized to perform these activities. Connection design team to develop connections and share with modeling team. Complete all the connection application in the model, generate shop and erection drawings, review and submit for approval.

Approver will review the model along with shop and erection drawings. Approver comments are tagged in model and the same is shared thru 3D model file interface. These comments received vide .xsr file are reviewed by Engineering and modeling team by importing into the model and the same is updated in the model for scrubbing of drawings.

Any design changes are passed to detailing by .stp file and our team will comparison report of previous model with the latest import.

Adapting to this, we went onto execute around 20,000 tons in various Projects for Dow Plants located in different locations in Plaquemine, Louisiana and Freeport, Texas.

These projects were under different segments namely Poly B, Poly D, Poly 6 and so on. The 3D Modelling involved Main structures, Drier support structure, Equipment Steel, Rail Loading Building, Stair Towers, Pipe Racks and Miscellaneous steel. Due to the complexity and vastness of the units involved, Sanria engineering had to be thorough and accurate with all the changes to be incorporated. Utilizing TEKLA structures and Smart 3D operability tool and several in-house automated tools, the teams involved could properly identify and tag all the changes. The results were then transmitted to the Customer and fabrication contractors for review. All the RFI’s, clash notes and erection sensitive issues were addressed and closed out through the 3D models. Quality control was a priority throughout the process and several QA personnel were assigned to the task at design, detailing and revision stages of the project

Over the period of time in recent years, we added another 8,000 tons of steel in and around these locations under DOW Chemical.
